Frequently Asked Questions
How are classes organised in Wurdle?
In Wurdle, a class is a concept used to relate a group of students, to a course, for a period of time.
It was designed to be the online equivalent of a real-world class that students attend on a regular basis.
I'm a tutor and don't have classes, what do I do?
In order to distribute material and monitor your students you will need to set them up in a class. For tutors this can be difficult as teaching time is usually one-on-one, and doesn't fit in with the traditional concept of a class.
- One option is to create one class for each of your students
How should I name classes?
Class names should have meaning within your school and to your students. For example, a timetable code
or the day of the week and time of the class. There is no need to include information about the course
or language in the class name as this information will be displayed by Wurdle automatically.
What effect to classroom start and finish dates have
Classroom dates should align with your actual class dates. All classes must have a start date. Open classes need not have an end date. These dates affect two things:
- The start date controls when course material is made available in the students word lists
- The end date controls when course material will no longer be available (however, a grace period will apply)
What is an open class?
An open class is a class without an end date. These can be useful for a number of reasons:
Can I change start and finish dates of a class?
Yes you can. Before a class begins, t start date can be changed, but it cannot be backdated prior to the current date. However, once the class has started (ie. the start date has passed), the start date cannot be changed, simply provide a finish date at any time and the class will close.
Finish dates cannot be back-dated. An open class can be closed at any time, but the finish date cannot be backdated. A finish date can be changed, but again, cannot be backdated prior to the current date.
Do class dates affect my billing?
Yes they do. Any student enrolled in a class is considered an active student for the time between the start and
finish dates of the class. Students enrolled in open classes remain active until the class is closed.
How do I create a class?
Classes are created for specific courses. To create a class, you must have Manager level permissions for your school.
How are students enrolled in a class?
To enrol a student in a class, you must have Manager level permissions or above. To enroll a student you require their email address.
- If the student is already a Wurdle member, they will be automatically enrolled into your class.
- If they are not a member, they will be sent an invitation email. Once they have joined, they will automatically be enrolled into your class.
How do I remove a student from a class?
Students can be withdrawn. Once a student is withdrawn they no longer count towards your active enrolled students count, from that date forward.
No. If a student changes classes they must be withdrawn from one class and enrolled in another.
An everyday Wurdle account doesn't cost you anything. Wurdle does however charge fees for schools and and premium accounts.
I have one or more students continuing to a new class at the next level of study, is there a quick way to enrol them in the new class?
Yes. After you have created the new class, locate the old class and use the Continue Studies option. From here you can select one or more existing students and the new class to enrol them into.
How does the continuous access policy work?
The continuous access policy allows students to retain access to their rpevious word lists as long as they have a continued relationship with a school. While a student is actively enrolled (or within a grace) period for any class at a school, they will have access to all course material from previous classes, even if those classes have finished.
The continious access policy does not affect school billing
Unit visibility?
An open class is a class without an end date. These can be useful for a number of reasons:
What is the grace period?
The grace period allows students to retain access to course material for a period of time after their class ends.
- To provide some additional training after class completion
- To provide access to word lists between periods of study (ie. during semester breaks)
The grace period is currently 90 days. Students who are in a grace period only are non considered actively enrolled and do not count towards your monthly billing. The continuous access policy applies during a student's grace period.
